Crocus Sativus (Saffron Crocus)
£3.50 – £24.00
Description
Crocus Sativus, (Saffron Crocus), fully to frost hardy. Perennial. Thrives in full sun, with well-drained soil. This is an October flowering crocus, which can be used for naturalising under trees, in the grassland, rockeries, beds and borders, containers or even indoor. Sativus is the source of saffron, which is made from the large red stigmas, gathered and dried. There are three stigmas to each crocus flower which makes you realise why Saffron is expensive. During the Middle ages this plant was known as vegetable gold.
