Amarcrinum Howardii, Hardy perennial. For best results, Place in a warm sunny position where the soil stays reasonably dry during the winter. Well-drained soil is essential and a cover of light mulch on top of the ground will be helpful. Amarcrinum has much to offer, being not only frost-hardy, it flowers in autumn and is also evergreen in most areas. It has interesting, palm-like foliage, and produces 2-3 stems, each bearing more than a dozen large funnel shaped fragrant flowers. These plants may not flower in the first year due to disliking disturbance. Native Habit: Hybrid genus (Amaryllis x Crinum).

Amaryllis Belladonna. Robust hardy perennial. This variety of Amaryllis is for growing outdoors. In cool areas they need to be grown against a south facing wall, in a warm sunny spot. Make sure the soil is well-drained not clay. Strap leaves appear in spring and die down in early summer. Flowers will appear in early autumn, producing clusters of 6-12 fragrant, funnel shaped blooms. Native habitat – south Africa. Bletilla Striata. Half-hardy perennial. This terrestrial Orchid needs partial shade during the summer months.  The rhizomes are very easy to grow, and will produce at least 10-12 flowers per stem.  When left undisturbed the rhizomes will spread yearly providing your with larger clumps and more blooms.  Ideal for growing in pots or in the ground.  They can be left outside over winter but will need protecting from hard frost.

Chionodoxa Pink Giant, Hardy, Clump forming. Perennial.  Needs well-drained soil in sun or light shade. These bulbs are becoming increasingly popular for spring flowering. The dainty pink starry shaped blooms appear during early March, and last for about 3-4 weeks.  They only grow to a height of 15-20 cm, which makes them perfect for naturalising in rockeries, or in the grassland as you would with crocus, snowdrops, bluebells and Daffodils.  The bulbs naturally increase each year, you can divide the clumps in May and replant.
